Updates: college & ultra marathon

I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. 1 Corinthians 1:10

I think a lot of Christians often fight about little things in the Church and in life. It makes me sad because we should all be united and working towards one goal together!

Time for some updates: I won’t be doing the ultra marathon. But here are some pictures from the trail run…

To be honest I am kind of relieved to not be running this ultra because I don’t feel prepared at all. Here is why I’m not running it:

Yesterday my cross country coach emailed me (and other new girls on the team) my first week of summer runs for Seton Hill. I asked him if I could do the trail run and seriously, he kind of freaked out on me. Great. He actually made me sound dumb for even asking.

That makes me sad. My first thought was, “Well, I should have chose to go to OVU for college because surely a Chritsian coach wouldn’t have treated me like that.” But I am a naturally sensitive person so I’m not going to stress out about it.

I am actually going to take more time off of running before I start my summer cross country training. My body needs rest and I don’t care what my coach says. Sorry dude. I’ll let ya’ll know when I do decide to start running and what the coach has all of us doing. This week is only slow runs and pretty short runs. (The longest being 6 miles). So i’m not worried about skipping them. He also has us running 7x a week, which is weird to me cause I love my rest days.

On a positive note, it is supposed to be 80* in Pittsburgh today! Yee-Haw!!!!

Ever have one of those “crap what did I get myself into moments?!”

  1. Love the verse, sorry to hear about the coach though. Maybe he’s got some pre-season jitters, hope he’ll warm up to you. I mean who couldn’t like you?! 🙂
I also think it’s so awesome you’re listening to your body and scheduling in some rest, I bet it’ll really help in the long run! Enjoy the nice weather and your weekend!! 😀

  2. Why did he think you shouldnt do the ultra marathon? Anyway, I love those oictures of you on the trail! It is gorgeous there! Anywhere that actually has natural water, Id be playing and splashing in it! Lol.

I can’t believe you have to run 7 days a week. I’d be a mad if a swim coach made me swim all days of the week. Cross training, I could understand but that’s a lot of doing one thing!

  3. Man that stinks he flipped out. Probably bc you’re such an awesome runner and he doesn’t want you injured. Silly over protective coaches 😉 My swim coach in college last year didn’t like it that I ran outside of the stuff we did for swimming I found that dumb. Are you allowed to double up your runs at all so you still get in 7 runs and can have a rest day? (just as long as you recovered enough between runs)

But I do like those trail run pictures such a pretty looking area ❤ trails 🙂 Enjoy your rest and recovery from running!

  4. Sorry to hear about the pooey coach communication! But I will say that it’s really easy to sound entirely differently on email than in person, so hopefully he’s better face to face.

  5. So sorry to have a bad experience with your coach (and especially since it was one of your first interactions) – I wouldn’t read into it, though. It’s probably more about him (her?) that it is about you!

  6. way to go !
lovely verse and thanks for comments ( working together towards one goal ?)
i’m motivated by this again… at the moment i feel super with running 2-3 X every week :p

    p.s – cute snobby pic

  7. I’m sorry about the coach…way to rain on your parade, right? I definitely had a “crap what did I get myself into moment” on more than one occasion. The first time was right after I got married, the second? After my daughter was born. Let’s just say I think things through a bit more now. 🙂

  8. I liked the verse so much..its soothing. And I m so sorry about the coach. But I would say that dont let such things affect you.Train well and do well. All the best sweet grl 🙂

  9. Ha! Hope your coach doesn’t read your blog. 😉

Maybe he has you doing 7x week because they are such short runs? I’ve never heard of that… not that I’ve ever run competitively…

  10. You know your self/ body better than anyone else! Stay true with yourself and listen to how your body feels- that’s how you will get on top!! Looks like the trail run was fun!

  11. Sounds like you made the best decision for you! I’m totally a sensitive person, too! Sometime I have to step out of the situation and realize that otherwise my feelings would be hurt all the time!

  12. OK, so, I had no idea he tweaked! Do I already need to go to SHU and kick some butt? JK of course. He would know best honey, and he knows what it would do to you physically — so we have to respect that. I’m sure he’s truly concerned about you (and his team!).
    Love ya,
    Madre
p.s. I will kick his butt if i have to though ://

  13. Oh! I am glad I caught this post!

I would be terrible to coach. Sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders that you are listening- even if not agreeing.
7X a week is tough. I do believe in a running sabbath… Does your coach have any of those days as a double- or is it truly over 7 days? Would he be willing to let one day be a double for you if you wanted to have a rest day- for any reason?? I am sure he’s trying to up the volume here and let your body (read: as ALL team runners) adjust to the incresing mileage.
Wow…I can’t wait to see what your workouts will be. Please post more!
